Play Road Fighter online, free and instantly
Road Fighter Retro is a browser-based tribute to the classic top-down arcade racers of the 1980s. There is nothing to install and no account to create — the game loads straight into this page and runs on desktop and mobile browsers alike.
How to play
- Press the Up Arrow to start the engine and accelerate. On a touchscreen, tap the game to start — the car then accelerates automatically.
- Steer with the Left and Right Arrow keys, or the on-screen arrows.
- Weave past the blue traffic cars. A collision ends your run.
- Drive through green fuel cars to top up the tank before it empties.
- Keep off the grass verges — clipping the roadside also ends the run.
Tips for a higher score
Your score climbs with distance travelled, and distance climbs fastest at top speed — so the fastest scoring line is also the riskiest one. Hold the centre of the road where you can escape either way, only commit to an outside lane when you can see a gap ahead, and treat every green fuel car as mandatory rather than optional: running dry ends the run just as surely as a crash does.
Frequently asked questions
Is Road Fighter Retro free to play?
Yes. The game is completely free and runs entirely in your browser.
Do I need to download or install anything?
No. It is a single web page — no download, no plugin, no sign-up.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
Yes. On touchscreen devices, on-screen steering and accelerate buttons appear automatically below the game.
Why can I not hear the engine?
Browsers block audio until you interact with the page. The engine and sound effects start as soon as you press accelerate for the first time.
